Tron (minus Tron): Ares (spoilers)
And oh boy, I loved seeing everything I grew up watching get destroyed in front of me :D (metaphorically, sadly (cuz I do enjoy when movies snatch something special from you if done correctly (best example I can kind of think of is Iron Man's armors exploding in the 3rd movie when his mansion is blown up))). They just disregarded everything that Tron: Legacy built :(
But first of all, WHERE THE HELL WAS TRON!! Ahem-... sorry, excuse my language. But yes, I mean, the movie was literally named TRON: Ares, and my guy was missing.
You know who was also missing? Sam and Quorra, comprehensible I guess, I'll let it slide.
Then there's Ares, he's an almighty force of nature that is unstoppable, with Sam, Quorra and Kevin it felt like the tides were against their favor and also they felt outmatched, I mean, they felt in constant danger. And also, Ares is just Quorra again, as in program gains consciousness and escapes to the real world, actually, weren't all the programs conscious? They just stuck to their programing... kinda? I mean the bad guy just was set to achieve perfection, aside that the rest he did on his own accords. Then there's his reasoning to get the code thing or whatever, it's just to egotistical, at first it was about saving the girl whose name I forgot from being killed due to having the code, but after he gets it, wouldn't he just tell them to take it from him instead? It negates any sort of heroic act in getting the code, he just keeps it for himself. Also if they were not going to give that code to the others why try to get it instead of fighting them, if you get the code you just got them closer to their goal.
Then there's the plot itself, for being a movie about digital crossing to real world, there's little of that it's too tame, literally only one Recognizer in the entire movie, that plus two lightspeeders and a glider thing are the ones that exit the virtual world.
World-building!! It throws to the trash anything that Tron: Legacy did ._. First off, how did they even achieve digitalization of people, I guess they could say Sam Flynn made it, but even then why is it not a big thing?? And what about Quorra? She is a program as well, and she didn't vanish from existence, the only thing that stopped them from crossing to the outside world was that they didn't have Kevin's identity disk, and that was to exit in general.
Then there's how the programs work, which is two points on it's own, first off how did they knew or recreated that of the original grid. Then there's how they respawned, when they got destroyed it was that their code literally got destroyed, not like a video game that you can respawn, but at the same time, considering that there now was someone outside that could simply backup their code and put it back in the program, but whatever, it still leads to the first point about how they were conscious about the grid in the first place (or else how would they know that the programs inside could exit?)
Story wise, HOW DARE THEY HYPE ME UP FOR A COMEBACK OF THE OLD GRID AND THEN JUST CLICKBAIT ME WITH ANOTHER VERSION OF IT- uhm, sorry about that again, there's this part when they are going to enter the old grid, but it's another version of it that's retro, I guess it's the o.g. version from the first movie.
You know what I would've rather have had? Tron vs Ares. I imagine it being like they set Ares in the world, he goes rogue and thus they try to fix it going to the old grid and bringing Tron back or something like that, the point it would have been a good idea to bring Tron back and make Ares a villain, which he gave off more vibes of instead of a hero.
But that's it for now, I'm off see you sooner than you think B+C=P
