I did the line drawing and base painting. I separated the folder between the hair that comes in front of the body and the hair at the back. White is in the front and blue is in the back.

The line drawing was done with the Sharpie tool, and the base painting was done with the fill tool, a pen that tapers off at the ends, and an eraser.
In this illustration, I draw the face and the hair around the thighs properly, but I draw other places roughly where people do not see.
As I mentioned earlier, at the time of line drawing, I am conscious of each strand of hair as a piece of cloth with a front and a back like a cloth.

This time, the shadows and highlights are applied only by erasing the colors applied with the Sharpie tool using the soft eraser or the hard eraser tool.

To make it easier to recognize, I work with a lighter color for the base.
I drew shadow 1 and 2.

The shadows are applied in intricate places between bunches, at the hairline, and at the parting of the hair.
I draw fake shadows to make it easier to see the relationship between the front and back of the parts, even in areas that would not normally be in shadow.

The shadow 2 is used to emphasize the border between the shadow 1 and the base color, and the line drawing.

The highlights are applied along the direction of the hair flow.
It is easier to see the shape and angle of the hair if it is placed longer in protruding areas such as the front of the forehead and between the back and front (sides) of the bunch.

After drawing in white on a new layer, I lock the transparent area and paint or erase with another color on top to adjust the color.

It wasn't enough, so I created a new layer below and did the same thing to add a thin highlight.

I will add some details.
Integrate the hair folder for finishing.

・Create a gap in the hair.

Use the Sharpie tool to draw the red line in the left image, and then click on the layer thumbnail while holding down the Ctrl key to get a selection of the red line, and erase the hair with the eraser.

・Add a parting and a thin strand of hair.

While picking up the color with the eyedropper, I used the Sharpie tool to add the split ends and the fine hairs that were out of the bunch.
Pink lines are added details.

・Add translucency and depth.
I used an airbrush tool to paint the tips of the hairs with the color of my skin.
This time, I wanted the character's image to be pink, so I added a light pink color to the hair at the back.

The parts in the back can be emphasized by hiding the contrast and saturation with the color of the air, for example.

・Finishing
Match the color and shade with the other parts.
I added shadows falling from small objects, colors, etc. to the blue area in the image below.
Small shadows are also added to the edge of the hair band.

Copy and merge the eye folders and place them on the bangs to gently erase them. The result is a slightly transparent effect.
Completed!

Since the character was drawn for a single picture, I adjusted it at the end, along with the background, so that it would not sink and not look bad.

Hair is one of those parts that can be drawn in a unique way, so it's worth studying how other people paint their hair.
The character I drew this time has long hair, but it is interesting to express the character's personality and emotions by thinking about different situations, such as putting the hair up if the character is exercising or curling it if the character is going on a date. It's fun to draw a variety of hairstyles, so please give it a try.
