Symbolism:
Asriel is holding a flower, a buttercup to be exact. This is what he becomes after he dies. It was also what killed his best friend and almost killed his father. He becomes something that was pain to his life, but in the end of pacifist, he learns to remember who he was and moves on from his past. Left to think over his actions as a flower.
Chara is holding their locket while facing away. They died for the freedom of their family, however, they ended up getting their best friend killed because they had still been hurt by other humans. Asriel just wanted to lay Chara's body on the surface to rest in the golden flowers. The one person they cared for most was their best friend. Chara doesn't get a happy ending unless you count seeing their family happy.
Frisk stands holding either a stick or a knife with their back towards the viewer. Frisk has control over all.
