About the Idris Yarbu:
The Yarbu (Arabic: يربوع) (meaning Jerboa) was a lift back car made by Idris Motors over 2 generations. The first generation of cars was conceived during the fuel crisis in 1974 as a very small rear wheel drive with a small displacement engine. It was criticised for its poor handling and the GT version was prone to flipping over at high speed turns. The second generation conceived in 1988 was much bigger and used a 1.4l boxer 4 engine. It was praised for its reliability and its spaciousness which made it able to carry lots of items. It also competed in Australian touring car championships with surprising success, winning titles in ‘88 and ‘89. By 1996 however the car was becoming increasingly less useful in comparison to other cars Idris had to offer such as the Usra. The Yarbu ended production in 1996 and no more generations of the car were ever made.
