Keiji Black finds himself conflicted as he suffers from amnesia. Within the city of Jericho, the threat of Cryptids, monsters manifesting from urban legends, have been brought to his attention. Keiji hopes to recover the remnants of his past by tracking one down. But after coming into contact with a dangerous Cryptid, Keiji is sought after, and forced into working for the Public Safety Corps.

Here, supernatural ability users called Engines work with the shadow government to contain and neutralize the Cryptids. By unfortunate circumstance, Keiji mysteriously gains some of the Axolotl Cryptid's abilities, turning him into a human/cryptid hybrid called a "Battery". With the ability to regenerate, he must now find clues to help recover his memories in order to unveil the truth about himself, the Cryptids, and the many conspiracies within Jericho.
