The life of the people of Aohican, who live in the village of Little Big Horn, follows their mystical and ancient tradition: on the day of their tenth birthday, each of the inhabitants receives the protection of an animal spirit, determining their role in the tribe. Kangee, a blind girl, is just about to receive hers, but her sacred ceremony turns into a tragedy because of the appearance of Armstrong Custer, a fierce general who has conquered the place and rules over it with violence and fear, and his unpredictable murder of the girl.
But another magic is hidden in this land: the Spirit of the Black Crow has the power to bring people back to life, but in exchange for a forbidden deal which forces its contractors to leave the village. Nyol, Kangee's brother, heartbroken by the sister's death, decides to plead the spirit, accepting the deal and all its consequences, and to take arms against Custer to avenge her and all his tribe.
