Start With The Eyes

Just as singing starts with the ears and not in the throat, drawing starts in the eyes and not with the skill of the hand.

Singing and drawing depend on how our brain interprets external stimuli and the windows that make these stimuli reach our brain are the ears, in the case of singing, and the eyes in the case of drawing.

Training your eyes to correctly identify patterns of shapes and colors is essential in the begning. Without this skill, all the dexterity you can acquire with your hands will be drastically impaired.

Because we can't draw well what we don't see well.

Almost all the artists I've met who said, "oh, I'm better when I draw from my own imagination", actually had a hard time representing what they saw because they didn't make a good start in learning to draw.

I'm not an artist

Hello everyone.

I've been drawing since I was a kid. I was always enchanted with the work of artists and kept trying to imitate their work. Mainly comic book characters in the beginning. I happened not to be satisfied with my drawings, although many people liked what I did.

This dissatisfaction led me to seek courses that could help me improve my technique, or rather, develop a technique since I really didn't have any. My drawings were quite instinctive and the end result depended a lot on how I was feeling at the time.

My parents wanted me to be a doctor, so I didn't have much support from them in my development. With few resources, at a time when there was no internet, I buried myself in public libraries, seeking guidance from the great masters. At the time, I managed to enroll in a correspondence course that I saw in a comic book. Only then did I really get a technical boost.

I "specialized" in drawing the human figure and wanted to one day become a recognized portrait artist. The need to seek my livelihood made me go astray and I ended up taking a course in the Merchant Marine. I became a sailor.

In that sense, I can't say that I'm an artist in the conception of the word, but that's how I feel in my soul.

I hope you like the works that I share with you through this site. Drawing is still the best way I find to express my feelings.
