Adelinia ran back towards the castle barrier with amazement and fear in her lungs, wrangling to breathe as she barely managed to attempt the small cobblestone wall that led to her mother's garden, soaked from the rain as she slipped into her room, kicking the door shut as she collapsed onto her bed, panting as her hip hurt like a bitch!
She lay still for a few moments, and suddenly his eyes entered her mind and she felt herself slowly succumb to the sheets of her bed, hiding her flustered face as her tail whipped violently against the wooden bedpost, he wasn't that attractive! And yet her mind said otherwise. Adelinia thought hard about what he had asked of her, to meet him at the waterfalls after dinner tomorrow, and yet…for some reason she trusted him, and even if she didn't, she always had her kopis. Her fingers felt around the cloth of her sleeve that he had tangled his fingers into…
Knocking at her door startled her back into reality as she struggled to calm herself, it was unlocked. If they needed her all they had to do was open the door. She stuffed her cold shivering body farther into the thick quilt at the end of her bed, warming up. The door slowly opened and as a heavy foot emerged into the room, she knew it was her fathers. She hid her face to hide her panicking breaths. From the tone of his breath, he wasn't exactly pleased to see her.
“Adelinia.” Is the only thing he growls as if demanding her audience.
She slowly looks up at him to meet those familiar amber eyes, resembling her own as his anger flared in them, rebirthing the anger she had towards him.
“Your behavior earlier was-”
He glances over at the door, his eyes softening as Artemis entered as well, her eyes widening as she spotted Adelinia soaking up her bed sheets “Oh, dear! Your back!” Mama throws herself at her and Adelinia has just enough self-control to prevent herself from groaning. Mama kisses her damp cheek before lifting the sheets off of her “Come, love. You cant soak the entire room with you! You can speak to your father at supper, right Balerion?” She glances at her husband expectantly.
Balerion just snorts and nods “Of course.” Adelinia raises a brow, her mother never dismissed Balerion like that-
She looks up at her mother as she is pulled up and into her bathroom “Mama, is something wrong?” Artemis helps her undress as she slips her into the marble bathtub, hot water filling in a second later as a frown hits her lips, nervous.
Artemis just smiles “I just wanted to speak to you in private that's all.”
And without maidens?
She bites her lip and holds onto her knees “If it's about this morning, I’m sorry okay but-” Artemis places her gentle finger on Adelinia's lips, praising silence from her daughter as soap is spilled onto her other hand “I know you don't want to get married. So I put in my notice that I want it dismissed.” Adelinias eyes widen in fear but also surprise…
Dismissed?
What was her mother onto?
Artemis snickers “Oh dear, your face is simply adorable. I decided to think it through and honestly, it did quite disturb me…so I dismissed it. You shouldn't be married anytime soon or later on.”
All Adelinia felt was fear, she had built up so many walls to prepare herself to be engaged only for it to be cut off. She doesn't realize she is crying until she lifts her hand to wipe her snotty nose.
She was happy yes, delighted but…why wait so long?
Artemis wraps her arms around her, gently rocking her as Mama’s long hair drapes along Adelinia’s back “Shhh, everything's alright now, dear.”
All she could do was hold onto her mother and break apart again…
Her mother's hands rubbed against her body to clean her off before rinsing and clawing at her nappy curly hair- “Now that the elephant is out of the room…King Jonathan suggested that Emerian come back over and spend a few days over here to spend some time with you, Isn't that delightful?”
Adelinia nods, a small smile hitting her face. That would make things a lot better and she could tell Emery all about Jer-
Oh, crutz!
Her face is red before she knows it and her mother catches all of it “Something I miss while you were out?” It's far too quiet- It's a full minute before Adelinia draws a breath “I-It’s complicated, mama…” She halts and sits beside the tub, her face now “Nothing is too complicated for me, what's got you as red as a rose?” I don’t even know! She gulps “I uh..went to town today that's all!”
She doesn't look deceived-
Mama was very hard to deceive-
She hides her face quickly “You can’t tell anyone! Not even Balerion!” Artemis looks down at her seriously, tilting her chin “If that's what you wish, now spill the seeds, love.” Adelinia hesitates to speak, her voice caught in her throat “I think I uh…well, I’m not sure…I don't understand my feelings, and um, man, feelings?” She looks hopelessly at her mother for an explanation.
Artemis smirks slowly “Oh?” She continues to clean her daughter's hair and Adelinia narrows a brow “Oh?” She dumps water onto her daughter's head to rinse and closes her beautiful eyes “I think my daughter has a little crush, that's all.”
CRUSH?!?!
Her voice stumbles to work “MAMA! I just met him!” She splashes water around as her fist hits the water, which in turn makes her mother laugh “Oh, dear. I’m just messing around. You’ll know what your feelings are soon enough.”
But Adelinia still feels something holding her down “But Mama…he isn’t…”
Her father’s voice interrupts her, he decided to re-enter her room and spoke from the bathroom door, his eyes averted “Supper is ready in the dining hall.”
