But hay fever and flu have made it clear

Hay fever is also known as seasonal allergies! It’s usually an allergy to things like pollen and dust (although there are more). Basically, when the allergen enters your system, it reacts by releasing "histamine", which gives you a stuffed, runny nose, puffy eyes, and, at times, (itchy?) rashes.
