A important part of Miriam's memories of her mother were the times she spent teaching her to prepare a myriad of dishes. Early on these were traditional Penumbran dishes, later even other cultural adaptions to suit their palette. The quality time, attention and skills always stayed with Miriam and yet she had none to share this with until adopting Mila.
This was an imperative for Miriam as the girl had spent near all her adolescent life knowing nothing about her culture nor the experience she had. It wasn't difficult for Mila as she took care of the Missipi children, the boys of the farmer she had been taken in by.
