Topaz is a witch/mermaid. When she was smaller a potion she was working on blew up, resulting in burn mark/scars covering the left side of her body. This also transfers over to her tail, where there can be patches of missing scales, I didn't do to many though because I got frustrated with the scales during the drawing process. If you were to look at Topaz from the front you would also notice that her hair on the left side is very close to the scalp, this is also a result of the potion mishap. Her hair on the left side is unable to grow any longer than what it was when burned away by the potion.
