Oni (鬼) are a type of yokai, demon, orc, ogre, or troll in Japanese folklore.
They are believed to live in caves or deep in the mountains. They are known for their superhuman strength and have been associated with forces such as thunder and lightning. Their evil nature manifests itself in their propensity to murder and cannibalism.
Higanbana or Lycoris is known in Japan as the "flower of death". Since these scarlet flowers usually bloom near cemeteries on the day of the autumnal equinox, they are referred to in Chinese and Japanese translations of the Lotus Sutra as ominous flowers growing in Diyu.
When the flowers of lycoris bloom, their leaves fall off; when the leaves grow, the flowers wither. This feature has given rise to various legends.
