In a 2018 copy of Nintendo Dream lies an interview with the lead designers of Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion.
The article finds a lot of hidden lore in its pages, some of which addressing Dedf1sh and her works. One of said questions included one about Ded's past, and who she used to be. The answer included the following information (paraphrased):
Dedf1sh had a normal life as an Octoling until she found the deepsea metro. She discovered what sanatization was, and she agreed to be partially sanitized, hearing it was a way to focus on work and not having to worry about procrastination. Although she thought it would be goods it turned out to be very bad, and she is still missing from the public to this day, but is still playing music for Kamabo Co.
