Koku used to be a doctor before he became a shinigami. He found his wife dead coming home from work and saw a shinigami appear before her body and he begged him not to take her away. The shinigami instead makes a deal with swapping his life with his wife by letting her live but when kokusho accept the deal the shinigami tricked him and swapped his life for his. When Koku becomes a shinigami he goes insane and his body was growing hunger for food so he ends up eatting Haruka.
