Karlos was ambushed and sacrificed himself in order to let his sons fang and kite escape and warn kira about the impending invasion of the Koga during the second story arc of g:ask.
Believing him to be dead rima and his soldiers focused on tracking the two wolves down before they could warn kira, eventually managing to catch kite who distracted them in order to let fang escape, nearly dying as a result.
Karlos managed to survive his wounds and later in the story, along with his owner, rescue kite and the duo returned to Ohou to help kira and her forces defeat the Koga, and it was Karlos himself that found out rima was being used against his will and managed to turn the tides of the battle as him and rima joined forces to free his clan from the Koga Lord he was working for, who in the end was killed by rima which ended their war.
Rima returned with his koga clan to Ohou with karlos and joined kira to guard Ohou.
