In Japanese Zen tradition, Satori means the first glimpse of truth in the life of the practitioner of Zen. In such a glimpse, the seeker ecounters the truth for just a fraction of seconds and then it is gone... Just like the lightening in a dark stormy night.. it shines and disappears, but if we are even a little bit aware, we can see everything around so clearly before it is dark again.
Satori is considered the greatest event next to enlightenment in Zen.
