Commission for Tree-san. I really wanted to capture the feeling of a couple of friends walking home from a New Years festival, all decked out in fancy winter kimonos and still carrying some sweets from the booths. I really like the pieces that feel like private moments that are part of someone's story. They're some of my favorite things to draw.
Background was originally a (daytime) photo I took in the Japanese Friendship Garden in Idaho Falls, Idaho late last year. Had to do a lot of tweaking to remove some of the more obviously not-Japanese bits from the photo (like the LDS temple that was originally peeking through the trees) but I'm pretty pleased with the results!
