long story short (spoilers):
Virgil got cursed by something called The Quiet (from being shut out by the others) and Roman takes care of him (cause they develop feelings for each other) so Virge can't speak and as time progresses, the curse gets worse; it gets to the point where his anxiety personality is shut out and he slowly fades away (and i tried— emphasis on tried— to recreate it)
