I grew up being told stories about
‘Duwendes’- that there are bad and good ones- but mostly the latter.
I was told that they are the protectors of our home and If you make a wish on a Duwende followed closely by tokens such as food- you’ll find yourself with luck.
(This is what I imagined what an invisible protector of our home would look like.)
