Once a marvel of engineering and architecture, built entirely in space. Shard City was self-sufficient, with advanced technology that provided everything its inhabitants needed to live comfortably. One day, a cataclysmic event occurred that shook the very foundations of the city: the Black Rain. A mysterious precipitation rained down dark monsters called Voidlings, causing chaos in the streets and turning a once bustling city into a ghost town. The Black Rain affected every planet in the Solarscape. All of Shard City's districts fell to the Voidlings but the Central District, at the very top of the city. The Central District now keeps all its lights on at full power to deter any Voidling presence, becoming the only safe haven for survivors in the city.
