These are some of the most famous Hong Kong foods! One of the things that really interest me about hong kong baked treats is how their names were derived as well as the history behind them. Pineapple buns DON’T contain pineapples but it got its name because of the pattern it has on the sweet, crispy top which resembles a pineapple! And the other day, one of my teachers told me a version of how cocktail buns came to be- he said that when British missionaries came to hong kong and gave kids sweets, they sold them to bakeries to make money instead.
