There's been a few glitches...
Playing hopscotch on a Sunday morning
with the summer breeze blowing
through your hair?
That must have been a dream
a digital vision, added with
a few lines of code.
Your eyes were so Flexen. I see them,
scrolling through our life together,
cascading like digital rain.
Like sushi recipes.
April rain gets colder than your shoulder--
(was that from a song? Or just the music
or you, breathing over a crackling
phone line? Memory banks are rusty...)
sometimes it's just cold
when the cracks in the sidewalk are set
deeper than my eyes
(Did they draw around you, broken
dolly on the street, when dreams
were not enough? When the April
sky called you, love crackling
over a phone line and the light
in your eyes--so golden--died?)
I'm all out of chalk
with another line to draw
around this mechanical heart
that still beats
...
for you.
