Mayari, a moon goddess revered by the ancient Tagalog people, is regarded as the most beautiful deity in the heavenly court. One of the daughters of the planet's founder Bathala, she rules the universe at night as the goddess of the moon.
In Kampampangan mythology, Bathala, the world's creator, passed away without leaving a will. His children, Apolaki and Mayari, fought over who would rule the earth alone. The two fought with bamboo clubs (Zabbors), back and forth, until Apolaki struck Mayari in the face, causing her to go blind in one eye.
