The Tikbalang are a race of forest spirits or demons from Philippine mythology. John uses the magical powers typical of his race, such as optical or sound illusions, to succeed in his new theatrical career. But since he is a forest spirit, his powers are stronger in wooded or jungle areas and weaken in urban areas.
