Agustín Fernando Muñoz y Sánchez, 1st Duke of Riánsares
Early life Muñoz was born at Tarancón, in the Province of Cuenca, in New Castile. His father was the keeper of an estanco or office for the sale of the tobacco of the government monopoly.
In 1842, Malmaison was purchased by Queen mother Maria Christina, widow of King Ferdinand VII of Spain. In 1861, Maria Christina sold the property to Napoleon III, Josephine's grandson through her daughter Hortense.
