No longer human is a famous novel, written by Osamu Dazai. he poignant and fascinating story of a young man who is caught between the breakup of the traditions of a northern Japanese aristocratic family and the impact of Western ideas. ( according to Amazon.com )
I drew this illustration based on the plot of the novel. Oba is a young man with self - confliction, he gets lost in the world and has the feeling that he is not himself. Half of this character is a person who lies under his family control, he hides himself inside the "kimono" and fears of getting out from it. Half of him desires to join society, to be a gentleman and become a social person. Because of this fear, he becomes a "clown" to mask his alienation, cover himself by fake smile does not reveal his dark side. Oba stands for people at that time, they are like puppets with unreal face, get controlled by others in society, lost their self in the new world.
