This was not intended to be a tutorial, however, it can be used as such. I always start with a circle and a cross in the middle of it (the curves of the cross depicted the direction the character's face is facing). This makes it easier for me to see where I want to position the eyes, mouth, nose, and even the ears.
The characters I'm working on are Snow Kazuki and his little brother Kosei from Verdict War, during training.
