Cövgrím was a peacekeeper of the regions surrounding the Stonelands, negotiating between the elven wardens and the Guatii. He left his post soon after though, because he heard rumors that Visân, who would become Visuviôn, had indeed survived his encounter with the vilest of great serpents. He traveled to the only habitable location remotely close to the desolation, Unclân. This land was inhabited by a primitive race known as the Unclânese. They were massive goat-like mammals that stood on two feet. in the mountainous valley they called home, they were quite isolated, with Cövgrím being the first outsider since before the great elven lands to the east were made. As expected, they treated Cövgrím like a god, inflaming his ego, and swearing undying allegiance to him. So when Visuviôn was rejected, Cövgrím rebelled, standing beside his hero, and beginning a war that never truly ended.
