For the revenant I relied on the actual colors attributed to the ninjas, especially the ribbon and white gloves. Supposedly they used them because it allowed them to recognize themselves in the dark but I can tell from experience that this is bullshit, in a dark place without electric light you could dress in bright yellow and nobody would notice it.
