Dear Santa,

Besides art, iaidō is the other thing keeping me happy. This Japanese martial art is practiced with a sword, but usually without an opponent. An iaidoka performs a series of movements, like a choreography, called kata; an imagined fight sequence starting with the sword in the sheath, and ending like that as well. I find it very meditative.

I am not yet at a stage where I could practice with a real katana, so I use an iaitō, a blunt-edged katana-styled sword. But my iaitō is about to break down I fear; it will not last long in active practice (they are not like true katanas). Right now I don't have the money to put on a new sword: it is not essential in the way food or heating is. But I fear for my mental health, especially if I had to quit for lack of proper equipment. So, to keep me sane, and also fit, please bring me a new one so I can keep practicing!
