作品的命名靈感是來自於佛典故事中的「狐狸報恩」，大意是樹林裡有500隻狐狸跟在一頭獅子的後面撿吃剩的食物，某天獅子不小心陷入洞裡，所有的狐狸只有一隻因為感恩獅子平日的照顧而留下來救牠。那頭獅子是釋迦牟尼佛的前生，救獅的野狐便是阿難尊者。 作品原先是刻意大片留白營造簡約風格，隨著「阿難」兩字用上書法字體之後，便有了靈感將背景畫上山水。
