It was believed that the Cait Sídhe could steal the soul of the dead before the gods could clam it. Therefore the Celt people did everything they could to distract the Cait Sídhe from passing over the dead prior to burial. Day and night the body was guarded during a Feille Fadalach (late wake). Games where played, catnip was spread into every room of the house except the one the dead lay in, fires where extinguish so the Cait Sídhe would not get warm and riddles whould be asked but never truly answered.
