As I said before on one my posts, Eric Hopper happens to like Wally Darling very much. In my headcanon, maybe Eric somehow can relax the painter puppet and is so far the one who can touch his hair. Wally also surprisingly purrs around Eric, but only when they're alone. Also in second picture, it was raining, so Wally stays over at Eric's house to let his cardigan dry up.
