"Free the Phoenix" is a snapshot of personified color out of a palette and into a new work. The process of starting from nothing to creating something is a journey in itself. This journey can be found both in the story of a phoenix and in the creation of art. The phoenix emulates the process of choosing colors for a work. The smudging effect combines colors while providing unique boundaries and the lack of linework further emphasizes the focus on pure color.
