Robotnik's apparent inactivity has everyone a bit on edge, but Shadow takes initiative and breaks into his base, to find (and destroy) whatever the doctor's latest project is. But he's alarmed to find a child's bedroom!
When he gets there, the kid is terrified; he assumes she thinks he's with Eggman. Seeing her, something... gentle rises in him. Promising he's there to help, he gets her out of the base and heads right to Sonic's group.
Of course, when he gets there, they mostly assume the worst. After a quick explanation, he's about to hand her off to Sonic when a strong protective urge makes him pull back! It's alarming for everyone but the child, who seems comfortable. In this light, the slight red coloring is visible and its clear just how much she looks like Shadow, and they all realize there's more to this kid than they assumed.
(I might end up making this a comic...)
