If you love a guy you have to give him nightmares that hint to his horrible past and then make him doubt if the nightmares are symbolism or what because "that's not realistic" but they're very literal and very much so just word-for-word retellings of the events which isn't TECHNICALLY realistic but it's fine because storytelling.
