Every now and then, it's fun to just experiment with an art style that's different from your own.
It's a great exercise and palette cleanser that can net you some new knowledge which you gain from the experience.
For this piece in particular, I had a fun time learning to work with fully opaque brushes and the cute effects you can achieve with them. Interestingly, limiting myself to using only opaque brushes also sort of induced me to use a limited palette, something I have always wanted to do but somehow found it hard to execute.
📽 Illustration process video coming up soon! (currently editing)

Behind the thrill-seeking, high-riding visage of this headstrong character is a thoughtful and sensitive soul that refuses to be tainted by the harsh realities of the world.
As long as you apply the light and dark values in a manner consistent with real life, you will be able to create a painting that the viewer will recognize.
It's a great practice to use black and white photos as reference because they make the shadows, midtones, and highlights obvious.
It won't matter what colors you choose- you could just go wild and crazy with it- and still your painting will resemble something that makes sense to the human eye.
Think about that: that means the possibilities are endless! Pretty awesome, isn't it?

Two years ago, I would have sworn that having solid lineart is the *RIGHT* way to start a painting as it is a solid foundation or like a skeleton that you can fall back on. Countless hours were spent trying to get somewhat good at it.
Maybe it's borne out of impatience, or just my general inability to produce decent line work to save my life, but I've gradually moved towards abandoning lineart altogether and instead I'm now just painting directly on the canvas and figuring things out as I go. It seems irregular, disorganized, or lacking method, but somehow it feels right for me.
I usually hate when I can't explain why something works but in this case, I'm too busy having fun painting rather than getting frustrated over linework that I can't be bothered to care.
This is a WIP - I'll be uploading a full painting process video for this for those interested in seeing it. It will be on my YT.

Hello everyone! I hope you're having a lovely day. ✨
I decided to change my profile picture and accidentally found a nice color scheme. It somehow reminds me of a certain drink.
