It's not really that difficult to do. What you do is draw on a new layer everytime you draw a new stroke and delete it if you were going to press undo and merge it if you are happy with it.
Without the select tools you can still use the bucket tool and clipping layers to achieve whatever you want to achieve.
The copy/paste function is slightly more difficult to replace. You can create a sticker that acts the same. Or just draw an image that doesn't need copy/paste.
