Chapter Five : Confused
     "Yeah yeah, I get it."

     BANG. BANG. BANG.

"Up." Melody jolted awake. She darted her eyes left and right, then stopped to stare at Frostbite.

     'Great..' Melody thought.

"What? Are you deaf?" Frostbite opened the bars, yanking her up by her wings. She whinced in pain.

Melody's sides hurt, she was starving and wounded. What was it, her second day here? She stood up weakly, her head bent down. She felt Frostbite grip her arm and pull her out of the cell. Where were they headed now? She felt a tight rope grasp her neck, then she was lead down a hall into a familiar room.

"Oh, there she is!" That voice. She hated that voice.

"Frostbite. What has the creature said?" The large dragoness clasped her claws together, giving an almost too-friendly smile.

     "Nothing." Frostbite replied.

"You know, this would be much easier if you just TOLD US. That way you wouldn't have to STARVE," The large Ice Dragon narrowed her eyes, speaking between restrained anger.

"She OBVIOUSLY hasn't learned her lesson. Frostbite, take her away. And-" she added. "I'd like the handcuffs please. You wouldn't disobey your Queen, now would you?" She said slithering to his side.

"No, no of course not your majesty," Frostbite sighed and obediently bowed.

They left the room, another guard took Frostbite's claw and attached them together for him. He still didn't seem very happy about this. It was different from yesterday, darker and more cloudy. The air smelled fresh and the atmosphere cool. They had reached the town. Great. Dragons were prepared this time.

"TAKE THAT," A dragonet said, throwing an old piece of polar bear meat at Melody. It held a wretched oder and looked like death itself.

Melody squirmed, she reached her talons to her face to wipe off the residue. She left her head down, her head felt too heavy to lift. She used her wings to sheild her body, she didn't feel like looking at everyone. Frostbite obvioisly didn't want anything to do with her. Was that dragon who they spoke to the Queen? What was the point of leaving them together? She thought it was rediculous. Frostbite probably thought the same thing.

"Hey, you're back," the same dragon from yesterday grinned at Frostbite. He glanced at Melody and immediately frowned. "Still stuck with the featherling?" He smirked.

"Shut up," Frostbite said rolling his eyes.

"Anyways-" the dragon at the window left for a brief moment, grabbing Frostbite's sword and returning it to him. "Here ya go."

"Thanks," Frostbite nodded, placing it back in its sheath, it fit like a glove. He then grabbed a small sack from a side bag he had around his waist. He tossed it onto the counter.

"See ya 'round," the blacksmith waved and dumped the bag on the table, several coins fell out. He swept them into his palm and walked into the cave.

Melody knew what was going to happen. Whatever did happen, she hoped it killed her. She didn't care if she died, she just wanted her family safe. She felt Frostbite jerk her away from their path through the town, leading her into the forest. Melody looked up for the first time, the sky was a thick grey. The sun was no where in sight. She felt like asking where they were going, but she dared not speak. She let her head droop down again. Her legs shook, she didn't know how long they'd been walking for.

Melody saw an odd glint of white. She saw it again. And again- She raised her head, looking around. There it was again! A tiny white thing. She laid her eyes on something tiny floating toward the ground. She glanced toward the sky, there were THOUSANDS of them. Melody made another gasp noise.

"What in the world is that?" Melody panicked, trying to yank herself away from Frostbite to hide under a tree.

Frostbite stared at her like she was crazy. He glanced at the sky, squinting. He didn't see anything wrong.

     "Huh?" He said frowning.

"What is it?" Melody jumped under a tree, yanking Frostbite's arm.

     Frostbite looked around.

"You mean snow?" He said confused.

"Does it hurt?" She asked from under a tree.

"What? No." Frostbite said yanking his arm from out from under the tree.

"But I thought this stuff on the ground was snow.." Melody said creeping out.

"No. Snow comes from the sky," Frostbite said raising his head toward the sky.

"Woahh," Melody breathed, a flake of snow fluttering onto her nose.

"Let's go," Frostbite began moving his arm, Melody trailed after.

Falling snow was even prettier than snow that was on the ground. Here and there little glints of fresh snow blinked like lights. Or- like those little bugs with light up butts. Yeah. Those.

Melody heard noises. It sounded noisy. What was going on? Up ahead she saw lights, was it another camp? She heard flapping of wings and roaring.

"What the hail," Frostbite cursed. He quickened his pace, Melody straggled behind.

They had came to another camp, wooden crates were burning, things were knocked over, and there was fighting.

"WE'RE UNDER ATTACK," Another Ice Dragon hollered.

Suddenly Melody and Frostbite were slammed to the ground, their handcuffs tore at their wrists and snapped. Melody looked up and gazed at a Dragon who had feathers like her. He gazed at her with confused eyes. Maybe he was he trying to figure out who Melody was. Ice, or Air? Without saying anything he attacked both of them, blasting them with fire.

Frostbite reeled back, spreading his right wing out to cover Melody. His scales stung and he took a sharp inhale. Ice Dragons could withstand firebreathe of any kind, it just wouldn't burn through wings. But it would still hurt. Frostbite lunged forward, sprialing into the air and blasting Ice toward him. More Ice and Air Dragons scattered the area. So much fighting. Frostbite was slammed onto the ground, he shook his head and stood back up, eyeing Melody. The Dragon came after her next. Her own kind. Coming to kill her.

Melody shut her eyes, the Air Dragon loomed over her head, about to slash her neck. But the pain never came. She glanced up to see Frostbite holding the Air Dragon back. He shoved him off, the Air Dragon tumbling into the snow.

"We need to go, NOW," He took Melody's claws and ran off into the forest. She kept his pace as well as she could. She tripped a few times, Frostbite waited until she stood back up to continue running.

Their quick breathes turned into cold puffs of air. The snow lightly flurried above their heads. Roars could be heard in the distance.

What just happened?
