Tracing Vs. Referencing

So recently someone posted art in my server, it was traced and someone reported it to me and I removed their post but then they have all of their friends jump my case and claim it was "referencing an image" When I lined up her art with the images that she "referenced" the line art matched up PERFECTLY and all she did was change the little details and the hair and stuff obviously so nobody would find out she traced. I have so many of her drawings where she traced and the original images and all of her friends are saying it's "referencing". Which is it? Did she trace or reference? There's a huge difference between looking at the images and full on copying the line art and not changing anything except what the clothing and hair MIGHT look like and even then she left most of the clothes the exact same to the drawing. This is frustrating and now I have to deal with an army of these people defending her so I would like some opinions!

  • > Naveonpop Can I see a comparison of their drawing vs yours?

  • > Zyvra I recorded just that, I showed them many screenshots of how the line art matches perfectly with other drawings with them overlayed and they said that it's only referencing because she's using the pose. None of the drawings used were bases and she never credited any artists for bases.

  • It's tracing. It's nearly impossible to get the lines exactly how they are in the "reference" image. Referenced drawings should not be a carbon copy- even if it's just lineart. If this was a base it would be different, but in this case it's 100% tracing. Idk how you could convince them, but if you recorded yourself showing how the drawings fit on top of each other that might do the trick.
